I’m sitting here at my desk looking at it snow outside my window. Yes… SNOW! OK, so there will probably not be any measured accumulation to report, but it is rather wild that two days ago it was in the mid-50s, and now for our last day of the season, it’s about 32 with flurries.
I suppose this is one of the many reasons why I love working at Loon. There is never the same day. Two things that always amaze me: (1) How my 7 ½ year old daughter can all of a sudden outgrow her clothes, and I not notice, and (2) How it can already be the end of the ski season????
Here are some of my highlights from the season: Please send us yours, and we’ll add them to our discussion board.
1. I discovered snowboarding. In January, my daughter Tabby asked if we could go snowboarding one morning on my day off. I said, “Sure.” OMG! “Sure???!!!” What had I done? I couldn’t take it back. Next thing I knew we were on Sarsaparilla and she was teaching me how to snowboard. Thank goodness for the new carpet lift, b/c I don’t know if I would have survived with the old handle tow. By the end of the day, we shredding down Snubber. And about a month later, I took a deep breath and got on the gondola and rodeall the way down Bear Claw. Even, better, we have it on video…
2. Being part of the opening of Rip Saw. Although we didn’t have a big splashy opening of Rip Saw, like we did for South Peak last year, I was really proud to be part of such history here at Loon. It is really fun to learn about the history of the trail names, and listen to people talk about how much the whole expansion project meant to our founder, Sherman Adams, and many other people who made Loon what it is today.
3. Watching my kid ski Rip Saw. It is really cool to see your mini-me rip it up. She was pysched to tell her teacher how she skied her first double black diamond during her winter vacation. (Now, I don’t know if I have the stomach to watch her do her 1st flip in the terrain park, though….)
4. Orange Mocha Lattes at the Hearthside. There is nothing in this world that an orange mocha latte from Timmee couldn’t fix this winter.
So to wrap things up, it’s been a great winter. Why? Because I work with great people who make me laugh a lot! We get to ski a lot! And we get to see and talk with a lot of you, who are also a lot of fun. I’m going to be updating the blog every few weeks this summer. I look forward to sharing our news and adventures. To give you and idea—the horses are coming back to Loon this summer, plus we are also getting a bungee jump down at the Adventure Center. Both of these will be very blog-worthy topics!
Have a great spring! –Stacy Lopes
