Loon Mountain Community

A network for skiers & riders passionate about snow sports

The much anticipated opening of Rip Saw, Loon Mountain Resort's first double black diamond is set for Saturday January 17th. Just under a mile in length and sporting pitches of 70%, this run is guaranteed to take your breath away. It's long, it's steep and it has the traditional New England twists and turns.

No doubt, it is destined to become another in the line of legendary New England trails that expert skiers and riders have to hit. If you're prone to pushing yourself to the limit while others have watched from the distance, Rip Saw needs to be next on your list!

A little hint about getting to Rip Saw; you can park at the main area lot and take the Gondola to the summit of Loon Peak, then ski down to the Tote Road Connector, which ferries you to South Peak, where you'll find Rip Saw. Or you can park at the Pemigewasset Base Camp and then take the Lincoln Express Quad to the summit of South Peak. The Pemi base Camp is right on the edge of the village of Lincoln adjacent to the South Peak Resort, and normally has plenty of available parking. Your call, but that's where I'd park.

Remember the name, RIP SAW. Bragging rights are up for grabs!

Comments: Break out the sun screen and your shades, the sun is back, the high winds are gone and we're in for a couple awesome days on the mountain! All scheduled lifts will be operating and 52 of 55 trails are open. With just under a foot of new snow on top of what was already on the trails, we are in for some outstanding Spring skiing and riding this week. I can't think of a better way to spend the day than exploring the three peaks with an occasional relaxing break on the deck at the Summit Cafe, the Pemi Base Camp or outside either main base area lodge. Get out and enjoy the day and be sure to have a good one! -Bud
