Loon Mountain Community

A network for skiers & riders passionate about snow sports

I can’t believe there are only 10 more days until June 21. Not only is it my grandpa Ed’s 86th birthday, but also it’s the longest day of the year. The summer solstice! Plus it’s another indicator that our summer adventures will be starting up shortly! Opening Day is Saturday, June 27.

Two big items to mention in this blog:

We will once again have horseback riding . Kara and her crew are bringing over the horses next week to get them familiar with our stable area and the trails, before we open on June 27. We will be offering rides for all abilities, including my personal favorite – pony rides. Remember- pony rides are like Jello – not just for kids. Anyone can take a pony ride. However, if you do want to take your child horseback riding, he or she needs to be at least 8 years old. And for the health of the horses, we have a strict weight limit of 250 pounds.

Horseback riding will take place right here at the base of Loon. The horses will be kept at the base of Lower Bear Claw and Brookway. You can sign up for the adventure right in the Gondola Barn.

Our other exciting new activity this summer is the Euro Bungy trampoline. Here’s your chance to let your inner acrobat shine. Or, if you’ve ever wanted to be an Olympic diver, but were afraid to swim, this is your chance to perfect your flips- all while connected to the harness of the Bungy Trampoline.

Each session will last three minutes. That doesn’t sound long, but I believe after 90 seconds, I’ll probably more nauseous than the whole first trimester of my pregnancy! For you adrenaline junkies who can’t get enough, we’ll be offering an Unlimited Pass which includes our climbing wall, too, and will let you reach new heights all day long.

The Euro Bungy trampoline does has a weight restriction. You’ll have to be at least 30 pounds, and no more than 200 pounds.

What else from Loon?? Our lift maintenance crew is getting the Gondola all spruced up for Gondola Skyrides. The Loon Lost Gold has been hidden in the caves; our new mountain bikes are here; and we’ve reset the holds on the climbing wall. I think it’s going to be a great summer!!

All scheduled lifts will be operating and 52 of 55 trails are open. With just under a foot of new snow on top of what was already on the trails, we are in for some outstanding Spring skiing and riding this week. I can't think of a better way to spend the day than exploring the three peaks with an occasional relaxing break on the deck at the Summit Cafe, the Pemi Base Camp or outside either main base area lodge. Get out and enjoy the day and be sure to have a good one! -Bud
