AlanV132 Loon Ski and Stay - Great Times

I've been going up to Lincoln, NH for almost 3 years now. Some of my fondest recent memories are of Loon Mountain, the way everything is quiet on North Peak as you take the long trail down. Lincoln itself rocks too, the people are great, there are some really scrumptious and quaint restaurants around town and there is a ton of nature to take in around Franconia notch. My family hasn't vacationed much lately because of the down economy, we were in the cycle of going to Loon about twice per winte… Continue

Griffin LaFleur Surprised Me

Went to do some training this morning and no snow on the way up but once past the Common Man, Loon area was getting its dumped on. Big flakes and lots of them. Fresh tracks on Upper Picked. Only planned to stay for some park and pipe training but the surprise of snow kept me on the hill for a while and it's a good thing. Learned some neat stuff in the park, but looking forward to my new skis with this abundance of snow in 2010. See you on the trails. Continue

Joey Skittles EPIC ski week !

What an amazing Holiday week! Mother Nature heard our calls and dumped a pile of POW all over the place. The glades are great, and a group of Chickadees absolutely shredded the trees, making fresh morning tracks on Scaler, Mike's Way, and yes, BUCKSAW. Next time you see us in the trees, cheers us on ! Claudine DeJoie I got engaged on the 7-Brothers Chair on New Year's Day!

My boyfriend propose to me while riding up the 7 brothers chair lift on Friday, January 2, 2010! He had my nieces and nephews holding a huge bed sheet that said "marry me" right near lift tower 15. When we got close he pulled out a ring and said "will ya?" Thanks to anyone who was on the chair and the trail who cheered us on, it was amazing! I have been skiing at Loon for 12 years and my boyfriend knew what a special place it is for me. It was a great way to start the new year! Continue

Bud Cabin Fever

Normally associated with the winter months when folks in the north don’t leave the house for days or weeks on end because it’s too cold, or it’s too snowy; simply put, “the weather is too bad to go outside so I just stay in the house all day long and wait for Spring.” That’s pretty much how this summer went for many of us. May to September, we experienced cabin fever, and it was worse than a summertime cold! It was cool and rainy more than it was warm and dry, and picnics, swimming and other sum… Continue

Joe Lancelotta You gotta see this !

So I'm working at Seven Brothers this morning and just when I think I've seen everything , this dude walks into the corral with two snowboards attached to his feet , yes I said snowboards . Bindings mounted , runaway leashes attached , steel edges and he tells me he's ready to test em out . Now I've seen mono-skis (two bindings on one fat ski ), tele-boards (two tele bindings on one long twin tip ski ) , ski-bikes , Uncle Sam sking on 3 foot tall stilts mounted to old school skis and they all ri… Continue

Stacy Lopes / Loon Mountain One to Write Home About

Opening Day- 2009. I think it was one to write home about. After getting out the snow reports, I took our Flip camera and jumped on the Gondola. The first run of the season I never buckle my boots. I don’t know why? I guess it goes back to my ski racing days (which are l-o-n-g gone by the way). It’s a way to get your balance back. Saw some fun faces- like Dick Sterry- working the top of the Gondola. Then I went for it- Exodus, Upper Picked, Grand Junction, Link, cruised by East Basin, an… Continue

Joey Skittles 10 Degrees

What a difference 10 degrees in temperature would have made last night (Ah, to have woken up to 10" of Pow would have been just great) but my crystal ball was just a tad blurry. However it was still nice to see snow on the hill this morning (Rip Saw was virtually covered), so we'll see how long it lasts. Cold temps are on the way this week, so keep fingers and toes crossed for next weekend's scheduled opening. Continue

Stacy Lopes / Loon Mountain Getting Ready...

I’m sitting here at my desk looking out the window at it r- ra- rai- rain… There, I said, the dreaded 4-letter word. I’m here at work on this Saturday, trying to get some things done as we have a busy week ahead: Bud the snow reporter comes back to work Monday, lift evacuation training is Tuesday, media party at the Boston Globe is Thursday, and the Boston Ski and Snowboard Expo starts Thursday and goes through Sunday at the Bayside Expo. All these things really mean that winter is coming upon u… Continue

Joe Lancelotta "Smiles per Hour "

Favorite Trail ? That's an interesting question . Each trail as you know has it's own challenge and each trail gets the smiles per hour up . I'd like to share my favorite run , but it's not just one trail . It's one experience . I start at the Gondola then out the door at the summit , step into my bindings , point em down Exodus and slowly pick up speed , take a sharp right and launch onto Angel Street , no hanging around at the headwall , ski's leave the snow for a second and then hit the snow… Continue

Bill Glad I joined The Loon Ning Community Website

I thought I would write a post to introduce myself here. My name is Bill and I have been skiing my entire life. 40 + years. New England has been my home most of my life. I lived everywhere between CT, NH, VT. My Summer base camp has been Cape Cod for the last 20 years with a few in VT. In the winter I mainly ride in Vermont, Maine and New Hampshire, but have been spending full seasons in Colorado at Vail lately. I ski well over a 100 days a year. I'm a ski bum what can I say. Many people ask… Continue

Stacy Lopes / Loon Mountain Trail Rides and Bucket Lists...

It is one year ago exactly I found myself in the Sawtooth Mountains of Idaho, preparing to cross off #6 on my Bucket List: I was bringing my grandparents ashes to the top of the 10,500-ft. Eagles Perch, to put them with their son’s ashes (my uncle Peter’s). As I was literally 100 feet away from the trail head to start my journey that morning, the US Forest Service came in and shut down all the canyons and trails within a three-mile radius, due to a rather large forest fire that unfortunately las… Continue

Stacy Lopes / Loon Mountain We're in full swing at Loon

If it was winter, I would be doing back flips with the amount of early-season precipitation we’ve received so far. However, I have to concede that it’s been a slow start to the summer because of the rain. Even though I’m a die-hard New Englander, and understand the saying, “If you don’t like the weather, stick around…” But seriously- it was starting to get depressing. The good news is that the weather pattern seems to be behind us now, and sunny skies are in the forecast. I had the opportunity… Continue
