LOON MOUNTAIN PARTICIPATES IN ANNUAL NSAA SAFETY AWARENESS WEEK STARTING JANUARY 16TH
Loon Mountain will participate in the annual Safety Awareness week from January 16-22, as part of a national campaign with the National Ski Areas Association.
Loon Safety Ambassadors will be located both in the Governor’s Lodge and the Octagon Lodge throughout Safety Week to educate skiers and riders about the Responsibility Code, as well as introducing them to Loon’s new Park Education and Etiquette Program, known as PEEPs.
The Responsibility Code consists of seven basic rules:
1. Always stay in control.
2. People ahead of you have the right of way.
3. Stop in a safe place for you and others.
4. Whenever starting downhill or merging, look uphill and yield.
5. Use devices to help prevent runaway equipment.
6. Observe signs and warnings, and keep off closed trails.
7. Know how to use the lifts safely.
Knowing park etiquette and being educated about terrain parks will always give skiers and riders a better terrain park experience. Everyone who completes the online program and redeems their voucher will get their own PEEPs Pass, plus they will be entered into a monthly drawing for a variety of prizes. One lucky PEEPs Pass member will win the grand prize and enjoy four nights at Big Sky's Huntley Lodge & four days of skiing/riding on 3,812 acres for themselves and three friends. More information about the program can be found at
http://www.loonmtn.com/peeps/.
A safety poster design contest will encourage children to learn about on-slope safety and their creations will earn them prizes. Free hot chocolate or coffee vouchers will be given to those who can recite the skiing and snowboarding Responsibility Code.
“Safety is our number one priority,” said David White, Ski Patrol Manager. Knowing and observing the Responsibility Code is one of the best ways for you and others to have a safe and fun day.” It is important for skiers and riders to always show courtesy to others and be aware that there are elements of risk in skiing that common sense and personal awareness can help reduce.
